A Glimpse into Atascadero's Unique Past:

Founded in 1913 as a planned “colony,” Atascadero holds a distinctive place in California history. E.G. Lewis envisioned a self-sustaining community based on agriculture, industry, and progressive ideals. The Atascadero Historical Society Museum serves as a treasure trove of artifacts, photographs, and documents that bring this unique story to life.

Exploring the Historical Society Museum:

Housed in a historic building with ties to the Colony era, the Atascadero Historical Society Museum offers a captivating glimpse into the town's unique past through exhibits showcasing E.G. Lewis's visionary plans, the daily lives of early residents and their challenges, the foundational agriculture and industries, the impactful contributions of key HISTORICAL FIGURES, and tangible

LOCAL ARTIFACTS and memorabilia that connect visitors directly to Atascadero's heritage. A visit provides a deeper understanding of the town's idealistic beginnings and the enduring legacy of its founders.

Visiting the Colony House:

Often maintained by the Historical Society, the Colony House provides an even more immersive experience. This preserved residence offers a glimpse into the living conditions and lifestyle of an early Colony family. In addition to period furnishings, you can also take in the architecture of the time.
